They do deserve a good amount of money but not as much as they get its blow way outta porportion . All they do is excersie in front of a camera pretty much . I think its not right because people who protect out country who risk dieing everyday don't make as much money as sports players who just like I said exersice in front of a camera ..
They dont deserve that much money because some of the athletes get paid more than the president and he is the president. But usually if they are the best at that sport they have practiced a lot in their life though. Then again the president should get paid the most or maybe army and navy should get paid a lot too.
The average NFL player has a career of 3years. The average NBA player has a career of 5years. The average MLB player has a career of 6years. Whereas the average person has a career that can span 30years and if you consider that an average person makes $40,000 per year, then on average people earn $1.2million over their life time which turns out to be a lot easier to manage than earning all your money upfront. The sad reality is that most professional athletes end up broke for many reasons but one simple reason is that celebrity has a cost. Typically nice cars and large homes and fine dining are all part of celebrity. Sadly when you look at the $770k average salary of a football player you can quickly see that the money will not last when average people make $1.2million over a life time. However, let's just say that my sports contract is at $5million. I decide to buy an $800k home, a $70k car, and don't forget that Uncle Sam wants at least 35% in taxes and because as a player you earn money in several different states so you have the possibility of different state taxes averaging 9%. Now let's deduct that and spread that over 40years (to an age of retirement. That leaves our $5million professional athlete with a little over $33,250/yr. I know many people will chime in to complain about the crazy large contract like A-Rods $275million 10year contract. To that I will argue that in America if your talent rises above the rest be it in technology, business or sports then you will be rewarded. I personally believe that is wonderful.
They deserve a good paycheck but I wouldn't say tens of millions!
ReplyDeleteYeah, they work out 24/7 but there's more needs for that kinda money in this world.
What are some better ways the money could be used?

ReplyDeleteCan anyone exercise like professional athletes? Athletes are drafted. Soldiers volunteer.

ReplyDeleteYou almost argued against yourself when you mention the best players that practice a lot.
DeleteI think they should't make that much money because all they do is waste it on stuff that they don't need
ReplyDeleteDo you have any examples?
